Important Debris Removal Information from LA County

Private property owners who have opted out of the government-sponsored debris removal program, or did not opt-in to that program, must hire an approved, specialized contractor to complete the work in full compliance with all applicable requirements, regulations and safety standards.📅 Important Debris Removal Deadlines🟢 June 1, 2025 - Fire Debris Removal Permit

All property owners who opted out or did not submit a Right of Entry (ROE) form must obtain a Fire Debris Removal (FDR) permit and hire a licensed contractor by June 1.If a permit is not obtained by this date, the property may be declared a Public Nuisance.

🟢 June 30, 2025 - Complete Debris RemovalFire debris must be removed by June 30, 2025. If cleanup is not completed by this date, the property may be declared a Public Nuisance. If a property owner fails to meet the above deadlines, the County may take steps to remove fire ash and debris from the property; the cost of this debris removal will be charged to the property owner. If not paid, the cost may be recovered through a lien on the property.

Property owners can receive an Eaton and Palisades Fire Debris Removal permit via the County’s EPIC-LA system. This permit allows home and business owners—and their authorized private contractors—to manage their own debris removal efforts while ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal safety and environmental standards. From the Office of Rep. Judy Chu:

If you live or run a business in Los Angeles County that was affected by January's wildfires, you may qualify for a tax extension.

FEDERAL TAXES

The IRS is extending deadlines to file and pay certain taxes. Any tax deadlines between January 7, 2025, and October 15, 2025, are now postponed to October 15, 2025 — giving you more time to get caught up.

To learn more please visit: https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-announces-tax-relief-for-taxpayers-impacted-by-wildfires-in-california-various-deadlines-postponed-to-oct-15

CALIFORNIA TAXES

You automatically get 6 extra months to file your tax return — but you still need to file by October 15, 2025, to avoid late filing penalties. An extension to file is not an extension to pay. You still need to pay any taxes you owe by April 15, 2025, to avoid penalties and interest.
